“Home is not where you are from, it is where you belong.
Some of us travel the whole world to find it.
Others, find it in a person.”
Home, farmhouse decor, traveling, the people I love. These are the things that have my heart, and these are the things you’ll find me writing about here on Yellow Birch.
I’m Alyssa — and I’m so glad you stopped by, friend! I’m a wife to an amazing man, collector of knick-knacks, hoarder of stationary, and fueled mostly by iced americanos and red wine.
By day, I work for an advertising agency as a brand strategist, but the real fun starts when I’m sitting down to pour into this blog, dreaming about redecorating our home or planning our next adventure.
My husband and I have been working remotely and living the city life in downtown Orlando and Washington, D.C. over the past few years, but we recently relocated to Central Massachusetts. Our move is partly to be closer to our jobs (yes, we work at the same agency – but that’s a story for another time!), but also for us to start the process of finding the farmhouse we’ve been dreaming of buying. Here on the blog, I love sharing our journey of styling our temporary living space while we save for our farmhouse.
Another piece of our story is one that’s particularly close to my heart. In April 2016, my husband and I lost a baby girl to stillbirth after her heart stopped beating five months into my pregnancy. We are so blessed to be parents to Emma Rose, though losing her has meant carrying her in our hearts rather than in our arms. Writing on pregnancy loss, fertility struggles, and our journey to start a family has become a passion of mine. We love to share our own story in the hope that we can be a light to others also walking this path.
Whether you’ve been following Yellow Birch for a while, or if it’s your first time here, I hope that this little corner of the internet will serve as a place of encouragement and a breath of fresh air. xo
